New Compensation Package!

By Sandi Hubert

Elite IT Services is adding two new benefits to the Compensation Package for our employees.  We are paying all full-time employees time and a half for Overtime effective July 1.  This is over and above the Fair Labor Standards Act directed by the Department of Labor requirement of employees with pay at $27.63 or below receiving time and a half pay for hours worked over 40 hours.  We're opening this up and allowing all of our employees eligibility for Time and a Half pay for approved overtime hours.  In addition, we are adding a 6 Paid Holiday Schedule to our Compensation Package to enhance our marketability as a key IT competitor in the marketplace.  The holidays include: Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Memorial Day.

By Sandi Hubert

A story of Elite IT Services success with IT professional placement and job performance was featured in the Small Business Section of the St. Louis Post Dispatch on Friday, April 13, 2007.  The story ran on Friday and we've been fielding a number of calls of interest in the organization, since then.  Kathi Sutin wrote

"Because of Elite's skill at placing people, most of its workers are hired by clients after six months."  Small Business Gives Up Employees to Clients

We have a longstanding history in the IT industry based on our own IT experience and background.  We draw from our own past experiences everyday selecting the right person for the right projects and it's proven by our reputation in the industry.  We look for the "elite" of the industry.  If you think you are "elite" material, then you've found the right company.  We are always looking for new talent for our broad base of project work and client job positions.

Live Chat from Your Monster Resume

By: Rob Hubert

A few months ago I found a very innovative job seeker. While searching for a developer on Monster, I came across one resume that stood out from the crowd. It included a link with the text "Click Here to Chat with Me Live". I clicked on the link and had an instant opportunity to find out if the person was a fit for my job. Even though they were not a fit, I knew that this person had above average innovation and creativity. They used a widget from meebo.com and included it on a web page. I've done the same thing on my Chat with Rob Hubert Live page.

Setting Goals

By Sandi Hubert

Did you set your goals for 2007 yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Setting and publishing your goals allow you to have clear focus and vision on accomplishing your dreams.  Every year during the New Year's weekend my husband and I sit down and figure out what we are going to accomplish in terms of our family goals, personal, spiritual and physical goals.  We determine our big purchases for the year, our vacation goals, and what goals we want to accomplish with our two children.  We unleash this powerful goal setting in our business here at Elite IT Services as well and we put visual and image to our goals.  For home, we are making a dream book or 2007 Goals scrapbook of cut out pictures from magazines that illustrate and materialize our goals in a visual manifestation.  We have cut out the swing set that we want to purchase for the boys to install in the backyard.  We have a picture of the deck that we want to build in our backyard.  We use cut out words and pictures to represent our spiritual and mental goals as well.  I am a firm believer that we must impress upon our minds what we want to achieve by stating, writing, and imaging our goals.  We laminate our written goals and post them throughout the house.  At Elite IT Services, I've created a beautiful background setting with our MASTER GOAL boldly stated in front of a beautiful sunset, along with our subgoals, trigger activities and causing ratios.

Resume Videos

By Sandi Hubert

The jury is still out related to Online Resumes.  In one breathe Forbes.com illustrates the downfalls, pitfalls and sheer fallacy in their article called "How Not to Get a Job" when they describe a young ambitious Yale senior that sent his Impossible is Nothing resume video and his 11-page resume to a financial services company.

Within hours, scores of investment banks noticed his application, as bankers e-mailed the seven-minute video and turned Vayner into the biggest joke on Wall Street. - How Not to Get a Job - Forbes.com

In the next breathe, Forbes reports that some large firms are embracing and accepting video resumes for internships or online contests for jobs:

Resume Grit!

By Sandi Hubert

Some of this seems like second nature to me but after reading this article by Forbes.com, I realize some people just may not be thinking about what their resume will look like after uploading to the job boards, or how important key word phrases are to the sourcing agents, or what could happen to those fancy fonts after upload.  You need to think about the end result and who you are targeting and where your resume will end up.  Forbes.com goes to great length explaining what you need to think about when applying online:

With job applications now more likely to be filled out online, it's trickier to get attention when you're filling out a form on a Web site. To stand out from the crowd, you'll have to get into the mindset of a recruiter and work the online system.  How To Apply For A Job Online
by Forbes.com.

Essentially, you want your resume to be the one reviewed by the sourcers. So you need to think like the sourcers - think like a recruiter - BE THE RECRUITER.  And I would lose the phrase "job search" in your vocabulary - you're essentially launching a marketing campaign illustrating your skills, talent, and past experience.   In this day - you have to market yourself to stay ahead of the competition.  You need to market your skills and talents visually (by your resume), strategically (by where you market or search), and creatively (by how you pursue your search).  This demonstrates true grit in your job search...yes I said 'job search' - can't get away from that phrase.

Make sure your resume is all that it should be and can be - take a look at Louise Fletchers' Blue Sky Resume Blog "The Myth of the One Page Resume".  She knows true resume grit. If you can't demonstrate grit by your resume, how well you market yourself, and the craftiness of how you go about searching, then how bad do you really want it?

Are You Passionate? - About Your IT Career?

By Sandra Hubert

I wake up every morning and I am excited about what I do and I am excited that I am changing people's lives for the better in the IT industry.  I see a 'paradigm shift' or a 'tipping point' of what IT professionals are looking for in their career.  People are changing jobs and even stepping down in title and rank to find more meaning in the work they do.  People want to connect on a personal basis and connect their work to a purpose in their life.
