Can a Resume Mistake Cost You the Job?

By: Rob Hubert

Can a resume mistake cost you the job? Hypothetically speaking, what if you have one mis-spelled word on your resume and the spell checker didn't catch it. Spell checkers are great, but they sometimes change words that you don't intend them to change. Let's take a simple word like "Assess", which is common to see on a resume, especially if you have worked in a role that requires analysis work. While no one would intentionally mis-spell assess, but by some mishap - what if you left off the last "s" and the hiring manager noticed. Assuming you had an excellent interview and you were neck and neck with another candidate. Who do you think would be selected?

Are You Passionate? - About Your IT Career?

By Sandra Hubert

I wake up every morning and I am excited about what I do and I am excited that I am changing people's lives for the better in the IT industry.  I see a 'paradigm shift' or a 'tipping point' of what IT professionals are looking for in their career.  People are changing jobs and even stepping down in title and rank to find more meaning in the work they do.  People want to connect on a personal basis and connect their work to a purpose in their life.

Quoted in Forbes.com

By Sandra Hubert

Today I was quoted in Forbes.com as a result of being interviewed by Tara Weiss, a journalist from Forbes.  Tara was putting together a story about interviewing in business casual clothes and if that is appropriate.

"It is essential for job candidates to wear a business suit here" [in the Midwest],..First impressions are everything" - says Sandi Hubert, president of Elite IT Services in St. Louis. This story can be accessed from Elite IT Services news page.

I was excited by the call - for me fashion, clothes and professional dress - that's my forte.  I am a business suit connoisseur and probably spend way to much time at Ann Taylor.  I am grateful that Tara was led to our website and I thought her story was fair to both sides of the discussion.

Should I Wear a Suit for an Interview at a Business Casual Company?

By Sandra Hubert - President/CEO - Elite IT Services, Inc.

"In this day and age of Business Casual, it is still necessary for IT people to wear professional business suits on interviews?" Especially still in the Midwest. The Midwest is still very much Corporate America. Regardless of many firms leaning business casual on Fridays or even 7 days a week, the interview is the first impression and first impressions are are still everything and 'all that.' As a professional skilled individual requesting a professional position, you need to show visually by dress and appearance that you are professional and presentable.
